In a concerning development for the citizens of Karachi, electricity prices are poised to rise by Rs 3.2 per unit for power consumers in the city, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

This is revealed in the wake of K-Electric's quarterly adjustment application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).

In the plea, K-Electric has initially requested a Rs 2.35 increase for the quarterly adjustment, along with an additional Rs 0.67 per unit hike to address arrears. If approved, this change would impose an extra financial burden of Rs 357 million on the residents of Karachi.

Nepra, the governing body overseeing the country's power sector, is scheduled to conduct a hearing on K Electric's proposed changes on October 19.
