The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday said that this summer temperatures would remain above average across the country while rains would be less, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In its report on the possible weather situation in the country during the summer season, the NDMA said that extremely high temperatures would result in heatwaves in Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab.
Elaborating further, the Authority said that Karachi, Badin, Larkana, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Matyari, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Dadu, Sangarh, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Lahore would remain in the grip of intense heat, while the hot weather could also trigger wildfires in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Potohar, Muree and Balochistan.
It added that excessively high temperatures could result in the melting of snow over the mountains in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) besides impacting the crop production.
The NDMA further said that less rainfall might also result in water shortage.
Similarly, cyclones might also develop in the Arabian Sea during May and June due to intense heat.
The Authority asked the concerned departments to take precautionary measures to deal with heatwaves and storms.
It also urged people to avoid exposure to the sun.
