On the orders of the Additional Sessions Judge Bhakkar, the Dera Darya Khan bridge has been reopened, 24News HD TV Channel reported on Saturday night.
Early today (Saturday morning), the Punjab government sealed the flyover connecting the province to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by placing a container on it in order to maintain law and order during the by-polls to be held on 20 seats tomorrow (July 17).
According to the channel report, Additional Sessions Judge Bhakkar taking action on the application of a citizen has given orders to the administration to open the Dera Darya Khan bridge immediately.
The Additional Session Judge Bhakkar also ordered the administration to carry out thorough checking of visitors to handle security matters.
Earlier, quoting its sources in the Punjab Police, the channel reported that the provincial government had received a threat alert from the intelligence agencies following which it took the decision.
As soon as the border was sealed, long queues of vehicles waiting to get to the other side of the border sprung up.
Sources further said that if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) permitted, passenger buses, patients and residents of the katcha area could be allowed to cross the bridge since there was lot of resentment in locals against the Punjab government’s decision.
