Indonesian Deputy Minister for Multilateral Cooperation, Teri Thariat, Thursday visited the COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad.

The visit was aimed at discussing future plans between COMSTECH and Indonesia, including science and technology, and fellowships for higher education.

The Indonesian Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan and embassy officials.

Meeting with the delegation, COMSTECH Coordinator General Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhry said that Indonesia is one of the founding countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and COMSTECH, which is playing a key role in promoting science and technology in the Muslim world.

The meeting discussed expanding mutual cooperation in various important areas. The Coordinator General COMSTECH discussed cooperation in the health sector. He proposed the establishment of a National Medical Regulatory Authority (NMA) and a Centre of Excellence. He also proposed holding an OIC Technology Festival in Indonesia to promote technology exchange and innovation among member countries.

The meeting also discussed the continuation and expansion of the COMSTECH-Indonesia Virology Program, the inclusion of Indonesian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Research and Development (R&D) institutions, and industry in COMSTECH’s key programs, such as research fellowships, technician training programs, and the Palestinian Scholarship Program.

Tri Thariat appreciated COMSTECH’s ongoing contributions in the fields of science, technology, health, and higher education.

He reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthen its role in the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCOE) and emphasised its continued contribution to the socio-economic development of OIC member countries. He also expressed his desire to involve more Indonesian universities and research institutions in COMSTECH programs.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials from COMSTECH and the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan.

The visit was an important step towards promoting scientific and technical cooperation between COMSTECH and Indonesia, which will pave the way for effective joint initiatives in the OIC region.
