Lahore High Court has ordered Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to give a timeframe for installing water meters, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In the hearing of the case relating to smog prevention on Friday, the court ordered WASA to start installing water meters with commercial users.

The court remarked that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) should also take care of pedestrians in its projects.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked that WASA is neither installing meters nor checking service stations. Until water meters are installed, people will not stop wasting water, court remarked.

Court further ordered WASA should submit a timeline to the court for installing water meters.

Court inquired if the Chinese are not doing this, why you don’t manufacture these meters at the local level.

Member Environmental Commission suggested that WASA SDO and EXN should be held responsible for water wastage.

Member Environmental Commission said schools in five marlas and with a fee of less than two thousand should be exempted from buses.

The remarked that the Education Department should have the authority to exempt schools or not.

Amendment in the Education Department is a good start and we should take it further, court remarked.

Justice Shahid Karim further remarked that if anyone has a complaint, there should be a council to hear it.

Court adjourns further hearing of smog remediation case till January 24.
