3 Karachi bakeries fined for violating expiry rules

A Consumer Protection Court in Karachi-East on Saturday fined three large bakeries Rs25,000 each for selling items not bearing their expiry dates, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judicial Magistrate Javed Ali Korejo also directed that copies of his order be sent to the DIG-East. According to a copy of the order given by the court, fines were imposed on City, KababJees and Khalid Sweets.
The court’s order reads that when Assistant Commissioner Shah Nawaz Mir inspected these three bakeries, he found out that some of the items in these bakeries neither had expiry dates mentioned on them nor were their prices.
It further reads that despite notice issued to the bakery owners by court’s Consumer Protection Cell, no satisfactory answer was given by them in their defence. “Later the Cell sent the case to the Consumer Protection Court-East. During the hearing, the bakery owners admitted their negligence and assured in their affidavit that they would not repeat the same mistake again,” the order says, and adds, “Since the bakers confessed their crime, fines worth Rs25, 000 are imposed on each of them.
