Electricity prices may go up by 21 paisa per unit further as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on Saturday filed an application in the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for hike in the rates under the monthly fuel adjustment, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The NEPRA will hear the petition on September 29, 2022.

In its petition, the CPPA said that over 13 billion units of electricity was produced in the last month of August at the cost of Rs137 billion.

Elaborating further, it said that most expensive electricity was produced from the furnace oil whose cost stood at Rs35 per unit followed by the electricity produced from the LNG which cost Rs24 per unit.

Similarly, the cost of production from coal stood at Rs20 per unit.

It was further stated in the petition that electricity was imported from Iran at the cost of Rs20 per unit.
