The latest scanners which the Government of Japan had gifted to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for the security of airports have gone out of order due to non-maintenance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The scanners were installed at the cargo terminal and entry gates of Karachi Airport. The purpose of installing the scanners was to stop drug smuggling and detect explosive material in the passengers’ luggage.

The place where the scanners were installed near the cargo terminal turned into a parking lot for the staff after the scanner went out of order.

The modern scanners gifted by Japan were installed at Lahore and Islamabad airports too, and they too also out of order.

The scanners were worth billions of rupees. They had been gifted to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2016.
