Power cut threat looms as KP departments fail to pay WAPDA dues

Several government and semi-government departments across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been declared defaulters of WAPDA, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.

According to the TV channel report, Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) issued a list of defaulters and sent them formal notices for the recovery of outstanding electricity bills.

The PESCO spokesperson said a formal letter has also been sent to the KP Finance Department, seeking assistance in recovering the massive dues.

The spokesperson warned that electricity connections of defaulting departments will be disconnected if payments are not made.

PESCO has released a detailed list of defaulters, revealing staggering amounts owed by various departments, including Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) owes Rs330 million, Government Primary Schools owe Rs542 million, Government Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges owe Rs157 million, Government Middle Schools owe Rs93 million, the Health Department owes Rs134 million, Pakistan Railways owes Rs31.2 million, the National Highway Authority (NHA) owes Rs80.7 million, the Auqaf Department owes over Rs40 million, the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) owes Rs110 million, the Kohat Development Authority owes Rs96 million, and the Tehsil Municipal Authority (TMA) Town-1 Peshawar owes Rs293 million.

The spokesperson reiterated that PESCO is committed to ensuring timely recovery of electricity dues and maintaining financial discipline.

Any department failing to respond to the notices may face immediate disconnection, the PESCO spokesperson warned.
