Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb Sunday inaugurated the "Planet Champions" application to safeguard mother earth by creating awareness among children about climate, water, and energy conservation, as well as proper waste disposal.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the Planet Champ has been launched in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's vision, who while chairing the federal cabinet meeting granted approval for a comprehensive awareness campaign on energy, water, and environmental conservation in the country.
The minister also launched the first promotional video of the app which illustrated its subject of planet conservation through the participation of children.
Addressing the ceremony, she said she was glad to report that the PTV has resumed its history of producing children's programming, including awareness-raising programmes such as Planet Champions," the minister stated, noting the application's major features and functionality.
She stated that the user-friendly programme was available to everyone in the country and that anyone who wanted to help safeguard mother earth may sign up right away. She added the application includes an energy and water conservation scoreboard, as well as a trash disposal scorecard.
She added those who would get high scores in these categories will be awarded medals, trophies and accolades.
The main goal of the application was to raise awareness among young generations about global issues such as climate change, water scarcity, and energy shortage, according to the minister, who added that she believed initiatives such as the Planet Champs would play a critical role in reducing energy and water waste in the country.
She stated that the government had already included global issues such as climate change and water shortages part of the school curriculum so that the kids might have a role in protecting the planet.
This effort included sensitization on these problems as part of the children's informal education, she added.
She stated that the programme will involve children from around the country, and that a gala ceremony would be arranged in which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would deliver gifts to the Planet Champs' top achievers.
Marriyum thanked WWF-Pakistan for its technical assistance, as well as the Citizen Foundation, which would register kids from 2000 schools with the application.
She also praised the work of legendary vocalist Haroon, who created the Planet Champs concept.
The minister urged everyone to do their part to protect Mother Earth.
