The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday took notice of long queues of people for buying sugar at Ramazan bazaars and ordered the removal of the queues of sugar buyers Wednesday (tomorrow) by resolving the issue, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court has sought details of people’s long queues for sugar buying at government-established Ramazan Bazaars.
The court inquired from the prosecutor why there are long queues of sugar buyers as why people are not able to buy sugar at a government fixed rate of Rs85 per kg.
The Punjab government Law Officer apprised the LHC that the government is providing a Rs15 subsidy on the sugar price. “In Ramazan Bazaars the sugar is available at Rs65 and in the open market the price of sugar per kg is Rs85. And chairs are being provided in the waiting lines,” the Law Officer told the LHC.
The court maintained media reports are against what the Law Officer maintained in the court and remarked to use contempt of court inquiry.
The TV channel reported that Lahorites have been facing a shortage of sugar, as the sweetner is being sold at Rs65 per kg in Ramazan bazaars while in the open market the sugar price is Rs120 per kg instead of the official rate of Rs85 per kg.
