Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's historic step for the revival of the film industry, an 8-member committee formed to provide financial assistance for the production of films, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.
Punjab's senior provincial minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, will be the convener of the committee.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of Punjab's first film city, film studio, post-production lab, and Pakistan's first film school.
Space has been allocated for a film city, a film studio, and a post-production lab in 'Nawaz Sharif IT City,' and the first review of progress on other measures, including design, has also been completed.
After the approval of the Punjab cabinet, the "Punjab Film Fund Disbursement Committee" was formed, and notification has been issued in this regard.
The committee will issue grants to filmmakers to promote the film industry of Punjab in the current financial year.
Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, and Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora are also members of the committee.
Provincial Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani, Secretary Planning Asif Tufail, Secretary Finance Mujahid Sherdil, and Secretary Tourism Farid Ahmed Tarar are also included in the committee.
According to the notification, the committee will review the applications of filmmakers and film production companies.
The committee will review the production of new films and scripts of incomplete films.
The committee will decide on matters related to fund management, eligibility criteria, and box office incentives.
The committee will also have the authority to form subcommittees on any matter.
The first meeting of the committee under the chairmanship of Marriyum Aurangzeb was held, and important decisions to implement the chief minister's vision were taken.
