Six arrested for attacking polio team in Karachi

Police on Friday arrested six persons including four women for attacking polio team with shovels resulting in injury of two female polio workers and one cop in Police Station Korangi jurisdiction, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the police, when polio workers visited a family in a locality in Korangi to administer vaccines, the family’s men and women physically attacked them and snatched their mobile phones.
Two cops were injured and the same number of polio workers also sustained injuries.
The arrested people include Sameena, Mah-e-Jabeen, Amna, Iqra, Gul Imran and Safiyan
The police said that additional personnel arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident and arrested six individuals, including four women, involved in the attack on the team.
The police further stated that the polio workers and officials, who sustained minor injuries in the attack, were shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.
Lahorite booked for denying polio vaccine to baby
A case was filed against a man namely Ehsan Butt for not allowing a polio team to administer polio drops to his son in Z-Block of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Lahore on Friday.
According to the FIR, Ehsan Butt refused to get polio vaccine administered to his 9-month-old child. The case was filed on behalf of Environment Inspector Sadia under sections relating to interference in government affairs and defamation.
Earlier, Pakistan has reported a significant surge in poliovirus infections in 2024, confirming 63 cases so far, compared to only six cases in 2023.
On Monday, the country launched a weeklong house-to-house vaccination campaign, culminating the year’s anti-polio efforts. Officials said the campaign aims to inoculate more than 44 million children under five to protect them against polio.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, the prime minister’s adviser for the polio eradication program, emphasized parental cooperation to help achieve a polio-free Pakistan.
