NDMA issues advisory in view of downpours forecast for country

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Sunday night issued an alert for concerned departments in view of torrential rains expected in most parts of the country from today (Monday, June 20, 2022) to Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the NDMA spokesman as a consequence of rainstorms, landslide was expected in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Galyat while floods in most of the rivers, nullahs and inundation of low-lying areas in the country’s plains.
The Authority urged all concerned federal, provincial ministries and the departments under their control to remain on their toes and take precautionary measures in order to prevent any loss to human lives and properties as a result of deluge forecast by the meteorological department.
The departments were asked to keep all machinery, including dewatering pumps, ready to drain out rainwater from low-lying areas of the country.
Apart from that, the departments were also asked to advise residents of the areas most prone to floods to limit their movements and avoid travelling unnecessarily.
Besides that, people living in these areas were also asked to intimate the concerned departments in the event of any emergency.
The NDMA directed the motorway as well as the traffic police to keep tourists posted about the changing weather situation and guide them to safe routes.
