The lady health workers have called off their six-day sit-it after authorities assured them of fulfilling their due demands.
Flanked by State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan, protesters’ leader Rukhsana announced calling off the protest in Islamabad.
Earlier in the day, they announced that they will march towards Parliament if the government does not accept their demands.
Meanwhile, the state minister told the Upper House of the Parliament about government’s measures to fix the problem.
"We assured the protesters of conveying their demands to relevant quarters," he said adding that LHWs were pressing the reinstatement of six or seven sacked colleagues and their demands could not be met as the cases were sub judice.
The minister contacted Rukhsana and vowed to get the problem fixed and Rukhana said if nine out of 10 demands are met, that will be fine.
A service structure and an increase in salaries are main demands which should be met immediately, she said adding the authorities asked the protesters to go to court.
On October 14, the health workers along with hundreds of unionists from different departments took to Islamabad in pursuit of their rights. Because of government tactics, people from other unions gave in and went back.
