According to sources, the father was associated with the Awami National Party (ANP), while the son was a supporter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The rift between father and son escalated when the son displayed his allegiance to the PTI by hoisting the party flag at their residence.
This seemingly trivial act ignited anger in the father, leading to a heated confrontation.
The situation took a tragic turn when, in a fit of rage, the father resorted to firing shots at his son.
According to police officials, the son sustained critical injuries in the gunfire, and despite immediate efforts for medical assistance, he succumbed to his wounds.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangerous consequences of political polarization within families, they added.
The father, following the fatal shooting, managed to flee the scene before law enforcement could apprehend him.
The Peshawar police have initiated an investigation into the matter, with the motive identified as a political dispute within the family.
