The crucial meeting of National Security Committee (NSC) began in Islamabad today (Thursday) to deliberate upon the diplomatic measures imposed by India including suspension of Indus Waters Treaty after Pahalgam false-flag operation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Committee -- composed of senior civil and military officials and summoned only in cases of external threat or major terror attack -- met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the chair. The all-important huddle will also decide a response from Pakistan to the set of Indian steps.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar posted on X account after the Indian government announced certain steps following the deaths of 26 tourists in a shooting incident in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday night, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri of India’s Ministry of External Affairs has made announcements after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

These included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan. Additionally, the Attari border checkpost was closed, Pakistanis in India were given 48 hours to leave, and personnel at the Pakistani High Commission were also asked to depart within a week. While diplomatic staff at the high commissions would be reduced.

Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Moeen Wattoo said India could not take unilateral decision on the Indus Waters Treaty, because it has the endorsement of international organisations.

The minister said the water sharing agreement between the two countries is recognized by the international organisations.

The minister said Pakistan would not succumb to external pressure and any aggression from the Indian side would be responded in a befitting manner.

Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said suspending the Indus Waters Treaty by India in haste and without regard for its consequences, amounts to water warfare.

In his statement issued by the Ministry of Power Division in Islamabad, the minister said, “India’s reckless suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is an act of water warfare; a cowardly, illegal move. Every drop is ours by right, and we will defend it with full force — legally, politically, and globally.”
