A spokesperson for the PML-Q leadership has said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is being used for political persecution.

NAB reopened a case against Chaudhry Shujat and Parvez Elahi on money-laundering charge while the PML-Q challenged it, alleging the bureau reopened a 20-year-old for political victimisation.

In a statement, the spokesperson reiterated the PML-Q leadership’s stance and questioned the bureau ‘action’ after years.

He questioned NAB action after two decade, saying: “What is the aim of reopening of a 20-year-old case, if not political victimisation? Why is media trial being carried out when the case is in court? What is the reason for reopening of such a case filed by an unknown applicant?

“There is no mention in reply of NAB about any corruption, kickbacks, misappropriation, misuse of powers or assets beyond means against Chaudhry Sahibaan. It closed the case related to loan and writing off.”
