On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to form reconstitute boards of ministries and divisions, the federal government has constituted new boards of six power distribution companies (DISCOS), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the notification, the companies whose boards have been constituted are LESCO, FESCO, IESCO, MESCO, PESCO and HESCO, and these have been formed for a three-year period.

As per the notification, Umar Farooq Khan has been appointed as Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) Board chairman; Dr. Tahir Masood as Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) Board chairman; Amir Zia as Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and Multan Electric Supply Company (MESCO) boards chairman, while Himayatullah Khan as Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Hazara Electric Supply Company (HESCO) boards chairman.

Sources have told 24News that the new boards of DISCOS have been formed owing to unsatisfactory performance of directors.

Earlier, the Board Nomination Committee had suggested dissolving the existing boards, sources have said, adding that the federal cabinet in its meeting on June 24, 2024 had approved the constitution of new boards of nine power distribution companies.

New boards of GEPCO, TESCO and KESCO could not be formed due to the ‘stay’ granted by a court in the case, while the prime minister had stopped the reconstitution of boards of Hyderabad and Sukkur Electric Supply Companies.
