Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman, on the advice of Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, dismissed Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmad from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Gomal University, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The TV channel reported that Gomal varsity VC paid a heavy price for writing a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The governor had earlier sent Dr Iftikhar on a 90-day compulsory leave for writing a letter to the Prime Minister against granting university status to Agricultural Faculty, which was later challenged by Dr Iftikhar in the Peshawar High Court (PHC). A decision is expected on May 27 (tomorrow).
The situation is complex now as just a day before the court is going to announce the verdict on a petition of Gomal varsity VC in which he challenged the decision of the KP governor about sending him on 90-day leave.
A notification issued by the KP governor has not mentioned any reason for removing the VC from his post.
On April 22, the higher education department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sent vice-chancellor of Gomal University on forced leave.
The department following the orders of Governor Shah Farman has sent Gomal University Vice-Chancellor Dr Iftikhar Ahmed on 90 days forced leave and assigned the extra charge of the university’s vice chancellorship to the newly established Dera Ismail Khan Agricultural University VC Prof Dr Masroor Elahi Babar.
VC Dr Iftikhar had written a letter to the prime minister expressing his reservations over the provincial government’s decision to bifurcate Gomal University into an agricultural university and the matter of his resignation.
Instead of setting up a separate agricultural university in Dera Ismael Khan, the provincial government decided to upgrade Gomal University's agricultural faculty and made it a full-fledged agri university in a blatant violation of the university act.
Dr Iftikhar, objecting to the decision, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan and tendered his resignation which was not accepted.
A day ago, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman removed the vice-chancellor of Swat University on the charges of financial misappropriations and unlawful recruitments.
Reportedly, the inquiry report found Vice-Chancellor Swat University Dr Jamal Khan guilty in cases of financial embezzlement and illegal staffing.
KP Governor Farman acting upon the inquiry report sent Swat University vice-chancellor on 90-day forced leave, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.
