Expressing deep concern over the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said the state of governance in these ‘provinces is virtually non-existent’.
Local jirga should play its due role in resolving the Parachinar issue, he said while addressing a press conference in Larkana on Wednesday,
He said: “The manipulation of the February 2024 elections is the root cause of ongoing instability. Our establishment must stay away from the electoral process."
he added: “The establishment has no right to impose a government of its choice. If the powerful circles do not show seriousness, the situation in the country will spiral out of control. Elections should be held strictly under constitutional guidelines.”
The JUI chief said that the current political situation perturbed people.
He urged all stakeholders to take serious, fact-based steps to address the issues plaguing Pakistan.
Stressing the need for moderate politics, the JUI chief said he always rejected the politics of violence.
“The politics of bloodshed cannot be done in Pakistan,” he asserted.
He called for the government to ensure that all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), are allowed to hold public gatherings and participate in democratic processes.
Fazlur Rehman criticized the delayed adoption of the 26th Amendment, which he claimed was initially celebrated for being resolved in nine hours but later dragged on for a month, creating further unrest.
