The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Saturday started consultation meetings with the Ministry for Science and Technology to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in next General Election (GE) scheduled in 2023.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the ECP clarified that it could use the EVMs in general elections if proved to be useful for the purpose.
The ECP said that it had constituted a special committee for consultancy with the ST Ministry to evaluate the performance of the EVMs.
The ECP said that the news regarding the ECP's distrust on the EVMs was not based on facts as a technical evaluation committee has been formed on the matter.
The ECP further said that they were in favour of using the voting machine if a solution was found by mutual consent as it believed in clean, transparent and fair elections.
The ECP said that the ST Ministry had given a presentation on the machines to the commission on August 17.
