Police solve Motorway Bridge gang-rape case in 24 hours; prime suspect arrested

In a swift operation, the police tracked down the prime suspect of the motorway bridge gang-rape case within 24 hours and arrested him, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Friday.

The horrifying crime occurred within the limits of Sandal Bar police station, where a woman was allegedly gang-raped during a robbery. In a press conference, Faisalabad SP Abid Zafar presented the accused, Ali Sher, before the media.

During the press briefing, SP Abid Zafar revealed that in the Sandal Bar police precinct, a group of robbers not only looted a citizen but also sexually assaulted his wife.

During interrogation, the arrested suspect Ali Sher confessed that he committed the crime alongside two accomplices, Umar Hayat and Faisal.

He said the case surfaced when, at 10 pm on March 26, a man named Adnan contacted the police, reporting a robbery.

The victim stated that while travelling with his wife near Chak No 62 JB Channan, near Maryamabad Basti, three unidentified motorcyclists stopped them and carried out the crime.

Since the assailants covered the woman’s face with a cloth, she was unable to recognise them.

However, during the crime, one suspect instructed another, saying, "Rana, turn off the motorcycle light." This clue led the police to Ali Sher, alias Rana, who was well-known in the area by that name.

The police arrested Ali Sher, and a medical examination of the female victim was conducted. Evidence, including stains on the victim’s clothes, was found, but further confirmation will come after DNA testing.

SP Abid Zafar stated that the prime suspect, Ali Sher, confessed to the crime, admitting that he raped the woman along with his two accomplices. He further disclosed that another accused, Faisal, already has a criminal record related to robbery and street crimes.

Earlier, the victim’s husband, Adnan, had also nominated Ali Sher as the primary suspect in his statement to the police.
