World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine called on Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed with him a range of issues, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In the meeting, it was agreed to jointly control the smog problem. It was also decided to prepare an anti-smog plan by a joint team of the World Bank and Capital Development Authority (CDA). 

Sustainable development goals in Pakistan and issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting. 

Mohsin Naqvi said “We have to formulate a clear and comprehensive anti-smog plan. This year, the AQI reached 271. We will welcome the World Bank's cooperation in improving Islamabad's air quality and making it a safe city.” 

He said every effort is being made to address the smog problem now. It is important to bring out the real causes of smog through a review report, he added. 

Mohsin Naqvi said the installation of anti-smog machines in Islamabad is also being reviewed and they are looking to control air pollution in Islamabad with the help of the World Bank. 

He said they started an electric bus service in the capital city to keep the atmosphere clean. 

The Interior Minister said improving slums and rural areas is one of our priorities. He said providing clean water and sanitation to the people is also included in our goals.

During the meeting, the World Bank Country Director assured cooperation in achieving the goals of controlling smog.

He said they were ready to formulate anti-smog strategy in consultation with the CDA. 

World Bank Country Director said report will help to reach the root of the problem. 

Federal Home Secretary, Chairman CDA, Deputy Commissioner and concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
