Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday that the PTI workers, armed with teargas shells and other weapons, stormed Islamabad at a time when the president of Belarus was visiting the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Briefing the foreign newsmen on the PTI’s protest along with Federal Minister for Planning, Development Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad, he said this was despite the fact that the party had been offered Sangjani as a site where they could hold a sit-in. “Afghan nationals were also among the protestors,” he informed.
Tarar also accused the PTI of using religion to achieve its political interests.
He lashed out at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, saying it was not focusing on restoring law and order in its province.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the politics of violence was the hallmark of the PTI. “In 2014, the party workers had attacked the parliament and the Pakistan Television building,” he reminisced.
And on May 9, 2023, he added, the world witnessed the repeat of 2014. “Government and military installations were ransacked and even burnt. In no democratic country in the world, there is room for such violent protests.”
Ahsan said that the PTI workers had martyred the police and Pakistan Rangers personnel. “Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan wants to get a ‘clean chit’ in graft cases.”
