As many as 59 domestic as well as international flights of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were cancelled on Saturday as the issue of fuel supply persists, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In all, 597 flights of the airline had to be cancelled in the last 12 days.

Sources told 24News that fuel could be supplied to only eight international flights during this period for which the airline had to pay Rs100 million to the Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

Only yesterday, PIA paid Rs70 million to the PSO for the purpose, they disclosed.

In a bid to revive the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday again approved funds amounting to Rs8 billion.

The ECC meeting, chaired by caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, took the decision to address airline’s emergency needs and other challenges.

The much-needed financial assistance to the national flag carrier will be provided by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Furthermore, the ECC also gave a go-ahead signal to an agreement between the Civil Aviation Authority and PIA, allowing for the smooth provision of these funds.
