The University of the Punjab’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies and the Sociology Department organised an awareness seminar titled ‘Promoting Socio-economic Development through Safe Charity Practices in Punjab’ in collaboration with the Punjab Charity Commission.

Speakers of the seminar included the CEO of Punjab Charity Commission Col (R) Shahzad Amir, Legal Advisor Mudassar Butt, Prof Dr Farhan Navid Yousaf, Executive Director of SSDO Abbas and Dr Fouzia Sadaf while students and faculty were among the participants.

They said Pakistanis are regarded as one of the world's most philanthropic people.

They added charitable organizations run humanitarian initiatives, including hospitals, ageing homes, orphan shelters, and educational institutions.

They emphasized using charities wisely so that they could lead to addressing socio-economic disparities and promote sustainable development. They also highlighted the significant role of academia in conducting research that could help in evidence-based interventions and also creating awareness among the public about donating responsibly.

The PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated the Punjab Charity Commission and said the university will collaborate with the commission to promote safe charity practices in the province.
