Police in Islamabad have arrested Raja Abdul Qayyum, a retired civil servant, following the video of body of his cat hanging from the stairs of his home went viral on social media, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Taking notice of people’s reaction to the video, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Hamza Shafqat ordered the police to arrest Abdul Qayyum, who is facing the allegation of killing his pet and then hanging her from stairs because she would pester him.
People had strongly reacted to the video and demanded perpetrator of the crime be taken to the task.
Lohi Bher police told media that a woman named Aneela Umar, resident of the same area, had lodged a written complaint with the police following which the retired officer was taken into custody under Pakistan Penal Code’s section 429 (Animal Act).
However, the suspect has denied he had killed the cat. In his statement to the police, he has said he was unaware as to who had killed the cat and then hanged her from the stairs.
Aneela, the complainant, on the other hand, has alleged that Raja Abdul Qayyum does not enjoy a good reputation in the area since he was considered to be a ‘sadist’.
