The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday heard the plea, seeking restoration of Nawaz Sharif as the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), as an objection case and upheld the objection of the registrar’s office to the admissibility of the petition, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the LHC heard the plea filed by Afaq Ahmed Advocate who appeared before the court to present arguments.

“Imran Khan is disqualified from Mianwali constituency, but he has not been removed as the party chairman. A petition against his disqualification is currently pending with the five-member bench,” he said.

“Read your plea,” Justice Ali Baqar Najafi asked the lawyer.

“Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif should be restored as the president of PML-N. An action should be taken against Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid and Sirajul Haq under Article 63,” the lawyer read the plea before the court.

“Now read the objection of the registrar’s office,” the LHC judge asked the lawyer.

“The objection of the registrar’s office is that Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court. The plea seeking his restoration as the party president can be filed in the Supreme Court,” he read the objection of the registrar’s office before the court.

“The Supreme Court has given judgments in two similar cases,” the LHC judge remarked.

“A case of the same kind is being heard by Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan-led five-member bench. It is requested that this petition should be referred to the same five-member bench,” the lawyer pleaded with the court.

“First, get the objection of the registrar’s office removed from this petition. Two requests have been made in the petition: first, the restoration of Nawaz Sharif as party head, and second, action against the respondents under Article 63. It would be appropriate for you to file an amendment plea,” Justice Ali Baqar Najafi said to the lawyer.
