Independent Group presidential candidate Mian Rauf Atta has taken the lead in the Supreme Court Bar Association election, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.


According to unofficial results, the he presidential candidate from the Professional Group Munir Ahmed Kakar secured the second position.


In Multan, Mian Rauf Atta secured 125 votes, followed by Munir Ahmad with 85 votes.


In Dera Ismail Khan, Mian Rauf Ata bagged 25 votes while Munir Ahmad Kakar got 11.


In Bannu,  Mian Rauf Atta got 21 votes and Munir Ahmad Kakar stood second with 11.


In Bahawalpur, Mian Rauf Ata received 54 and Munir Ahmed Kakar got 38,


In Hyderabad, Mian Rauf Atta got 54 votes and Munir Ahmed Kakar 34.


In Swat, Mian Rauf Ata got 20 votes and Munir Ahmed Kakar 12.


In Lahore presidential candidate Mian Rauf Ata took the lead by 68 votes.


In Islamabad too the Asma Jahangir group's presidential candidate Rauf Atta won by getting 350 votes, followed by Munir Kakar of Hamid Khan Group  who bagged 331 votes.


Rauf Atta won by a margin of 19 votes.


However, in Karachi, Munir Ahmed Kakar topped with 218 while Mian Rauf Atta secured second position with 153 votes.


In the Sindh capital, Salman Mansoor won the secretary's seat with 238 votes followed by Zahid Aslam Awan with 129 votes


More than 4,021 lawyers cast their votes while a total of 17 candidates vied for the top slots of the Supreme Court Bar Association.


Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif felicitated the newly-elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Mian Rauf Atta.


The prime minister congratulated all the leaders of the group for winning the SCBA elections, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.


He also expressed confidence that the newly elected officebearers, including the president, would continue their mission of the welfare of the lawyers’ community.


The lawyers’ community would continue playing its positive role for the implementation of 26th Constitutional Amendment, Constitution and the supremacy of parliament, he added.


The prime minister said that the lawyers’ community deserved appreciation for their election of Rauf Atta as their best leadership.


He hoped that the newly elected office bearers and the lawyers’ community would play their positive and effective role for the resolution of issues faced by the community and others including the legal and judicial.
