The Rawalpindi Gas Department has come under fire for spoiling Eid celebrations by failing to ensure uninterrupted gas supply, despite clear instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.
On the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, several areas across Rawalpindi district, including Chakwal, Tehsil Gujar Khan, Chaklala Garrison, Bahria Town, and Adiala, were left without gas, leaving residents struggling to cook food. Many were forced to buy meals from hotels, turning what should have been a joyous occasion into a frustrating ordeal.
Adding to the frustration, the department's complaint helpline (051-4917270) was unresponsive, with no officials available to assist citizens. The gas crisis is not new for Rawalpindi residents.
During Ramadan, consumers faced supply disruptions and low pressure, particularly at Sehri and Iftar times. The lack of timely intervention has only worsened public frustration.
Political and public circles in Rawalpindi district are now demanding immediate restoration of gas supply and a judicial inquiry into the matter. They are calling on the Prime Minister and the Federal Minister of Petroleum to take strict action against those responsible for the mismanagement.
Furthermore, they urge authorities to address gas pressure issues, prevent underground leakages, and take measures to avert future explosions and fires caused by the department’s negligence.
