President approves reformation of Council of Common Interests

President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the reformation of a new Council of Common Interests (CCI) on the advice of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.
The CCI is a constitutional body that deals with matters of common interest between the federal and provincial governments.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister will be the Chairman of the CCI, while the chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be its members.
The federal ministers for finance and revenue, privatization and law and justice will also be part of the council.
The President gave the approval under Article 153 of the Constitution, which empowers him to constitute the CCI after consultation with the Prime Minister.
The CCI is expected to meet soon to discuss various issues pertaining to the federation and the provinces.
