The Punjab Prisons Department has rubbished rumours about the mistreatment of ex-PM Imran Khan, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
Since Imran Khan’s imprisonment in Attock jail, rumours about the maltreatment of Imran are on the rise. Vice Chairman of PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi too issued a statement alleging that the PTI chief has been experiencing mistreatment in prison.
The Punjab government denied any wrongdoing, saying Imran Khan is kept in a separate barrack due to security reasons where he is provided with an air cooler, a bed, a ceiling fan, a mattress, a table and two chairs as per the law.
It was also stated that he is provided with all the necessary medical facilities and the PTI chief is also allowed to meet family and lawyers as per the law.
On Monday, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi raised the issue in a core committee meeting.
He said that the Islamabad Police was ordered to arrest the party chief but he was arrested by the Punjab Police.
Moreover, he was to be imprisoned in the Adiala Jail but he is kept in the Attock jail in a 9 x 11 C class cell instead of the B class cell he has a legal right for.
He showed concern that the former PM did not receive the food that was sent to him.
The board of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) kept waiting for Imran Khan as his checkup was scheduled but he was also not taken there.
There is no doctor available in the Attock jail and a doctor would be on call from the District Headquarters Hospital when needed.
