The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed the pleas against the detention of Khadija Shah and others involved in the May 9 incidents, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A two-judge LHC bench, comprising Justice Ali Baqir Najafi and Justice Amjad Rafiq, issued a 26-page written verdict, dismissing the pleas against the detention of Khadija Shah and others including Huma Saeed, Rizwan Zia and Zubair Malik.
“The detention cannot be declared illegal at this stage. The police, in this context, had immediately registered a case and launched investigations, and whoever involved was identified according to the law,” the text of the court read.
“The fateful events of May 9 revealed the intolerance and dangerous fanaticism of a charged mob. These unfortunate incidents also challenged the civil judicial system. Before this incident, people had not witnessed such vandalism in Jinnah House,” it added.
“The protesters were angry with the civil and military leadership, but what happened that day was inexplicable. The state, however, had to save itself. Alhamdulillah! Everything is in its place,” it stated.
“No doubt, the accused have legal rights which the courts protect. The best strategy for the petitioners at this time is to follow the normal course of law. Bypassing the entire procedure will not benefit them,” it added.
