The construction of highrise buildings around the Allama Iqbal International Airport in violation of rules have been declared as dangerous for the safety of the flights, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

In a letter to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Commissioner Lahore Division, the airport manager has said that the illegal highrise construction around the AIIP is dangerous for flights safety.

The TV channel reported that the Lahore Airport management has once again expressed its concerns over the high-rise buildings and housing colonies around the international airport.

Lahore Airport Manager Akhtar Mirza has written to the Civil Aviation Authority expressing his concerns. The manager also sent separate letters to the Lahore Division Commissioner and LDA DG.

Illegal constructions have been carried out in an area of 15 km around the airport, the letter said.

The airport manager said Building Control Authority and other concerned agencies did not take action on repeated notifications and warnings.

Illegal constructions around the take-off and approach area of the airport can lead to a dangerous accident at any time, he maintained.

Airport billboards, large billboards, antennas and buildings around the airport have become dangerous, the manager said and demanded to take notice of the alleged negligence of the Building Control Authority.
