Sun turns ruthless; heatwave grips Sindh as temperatures soar to 49°C

The sun has begun to beat down mercilessly across most parts of Pakistan, especially in Sindh, causing a severe spike in the ongoing heatwave, reported 24NewsHD TV on Tuesday.

Due to the sudden surge in temperatures, citizens are retreating indoors, and markets in many cities have taken on a deserted look. The Metrological Department has issued a heatwave alert, warning of a further rise in temperature in the coming days, with no chance of rainfall in sight.

In Shikarpur, the mercury climbed to 41°C, while surrounding areas sizzled at 48°C. The maximum temperature is expected to soar to 49°C.

Kashmore and nearby localities experienced temperatures as high as 45°C to 48°C, while Khairpur Nathan Shah recorded 41°C, with forecasts predicting a rise to 47°C by evening.

The blazing sun also intensified in Larkana, Moenjodaro, and adjacent areas, where the maximum temperature reached 45°C, with a heat index effect of 46°C.

In Karachi, hot and humid conditions persist. The current temperature is 30°C, but strong winds are expected throughout the day, and the maximum temperature may rise to 37°C, the Met Office said.

Meanwhile, Lahore is experiencing a surge in heat, with the sun described as “raining fire.” The current temperature stands at 31°C, though it feels like 33°C. Today’s forecast includes a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 37°C.
