An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was martyred and a dacoit was killed in a police encounter in Ferozwala near Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The Ferozwala police said, while patrolling, cops signalled two robbers on a motorcycle to stop in Khanpur area of Ferozwala but the robbers opened indiscriminate firing at the police patrol vehicle.

As a result of firing, ASI Mohammad Nawaz received bullets and breathed his last on the spot.

However, in retaliatory firing by police, one robber was also killed but the other escaped. The dead bandit was identified as Imran, a resident of Rawalpindi.

The police took the pistol, mobile and motorcycle of the robbers in custody.
