Hussain Afridi, a local leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over alleged social media activity against state institutions, according to official FIA sources.

The arrest was carried out in Khyber district, with police personnel accompanying FIA officials during the operation.

Afridi was taken into custody on the basis of inquiry number 494/2025 and had been booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) on March 18, officials confirmed.

Sources say Afridi used his social media account to share false information and run a campaign targeting state institutions, actions which prompted the launch of the inquiry against him.

Following his arrest, the PTM leader was shifted from Ali Masjid police station to FIA headquarters in Peshawar for further interrogation.
