The federal cabinet has approved a significant 188% increase in the salaries of federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers, sources revealed.

The decision was made through a circulation summary, amending the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State Allowance and Salaries Act, 1975.

Under the revised salary structure, federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers will now receive a monthly salary of Rs. 519,000, a sharp rise from the previous Rs. 200,000 for federal ministers and Rs. 180,000 for ministers of state.

The increase for federal ministers stands at 159%, while the salaries of ministers of state and advisers have been raised by 188%.

The decision, approved by federal ministers, will now be presented in Parliament for final approval.

The move comes when the country faces severe economic challenges, prompting criticism over the steep salary hikes for top government officials.
