It is now time for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce parties’ positions in terms of the number of seats they have in the National and provincial assemblies after the deadline given to winning independent candidates to join any political party after the general elections is over, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
On the other hand, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza has written a letter to the ECP in which he has requested for reserved seats for women and minorities.
However, sources have told 24News that the party is yet to submit to the election commission priority lists for the purpose.
SIC chairman, on the other hand, has said that the party will soon submit these lists.
Sources have further said that the ECP officials will hold consultations with each other over the matter before taking any decision.
So far, 87 PTI-backed independents in the National Assembly, 107 in the Punjab Assembly, 90 in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly and nine in the Sindh Assembly have joined the SIC.
