Punjab Home Department has failed to mention duration and timings for mobile services suspension during its request to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

In a letter sent to Punjab’s Home Secretary, the interior ministry wrote that the PTA has pointed out that they are facing problems due to no mention of duration/timing for jamming of cellular services in the seven cities mentioned by the in the request.

The cities include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chiniot, Okara and Bahawalpur. 

“It is requested that duration /timing for jamming of mobile services in the above cities during Muharram 2020 may kindly be conveyed to PTA directly for timely action under Intimation to this Ministry please,” the letter reads. 

The Punjab Home Department has recommended suspending cellular phone services in the province on 9th and 10th of Muharram as part of security measure.

According to details, a meeting was held in Lahore under the chair of Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat to review law and order situation ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram.

The meeting was attended by divisional commissioners and regional police officers (RPOs). 

The Punjab Home Department has recommended for suspension of mobile service on selective areas, especially along the routes of mourning processions.
