The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started criminal inquiry against two people, including Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) director transport, following reports of an embezzlement of over Rs11 million in the Transport Directorate, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Monday.
The officials against whom the inquiry has been launched are Malik Arif and Manager Transport Zulqarnain Kiani.
Both the officials had been found guilty in the departmental inquiry as well.
While 80 per cent of the total amount misappropriated had been recovered from Kiani, 20 per cent had been recovered from Arif.
Although the IESCO, too, had recommended disciplinary action against both these officials after corruption charges were proved against them, action could not be taken because of the influence they wielded.
It was at that time that the FIA took over and launched an inquiry.
