The federal government has amended the Rules of Business 1973, granting the Prime Minister the authority to delegate ministerial powers to Ministers of State and Advisers, sources revealed.
Under this amendment, the Prime Minister can now assign full or partial powers of an in-charge minister to a Minister of State or an Adviser. The decision aims to enhance the efficiency of government ministries and divisions.
According to sources, if a ministry or division does not have a federal minister, the prime minister serves as the in-charge minister. However, with this amendment, he can now transfer those responsibilities to his appointed Ministers of State or Advisers.
The Prime Minister is responsible for distributing governmental business among ministers, and he can allocate one or more ministries or divisions to a single federal minister if needed.
Currently, the Prime Minister has four advisers and 11 Ministers of State. Among them:
Adviser Rana Sanaullah oversees political and public affairs and inter-provincial coordination.
Adviser Dr Tauqir Shah has been assigned the Prime Minister’s Office portfolio.
Adviser Muhammad Ali is in charge of privatisation. and
Adviser Pervez Khattak has been given the Interior Ministry portfolio.
