Dense fog prompts closure of motorways at various sections in Punjab

Dense fog blanketed parts of Punjab prompting authorities to close multiple sections of major motorways to ensure public safety, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Motorway Police spokesperson said that visibility issues forced the closure of Multan motorway M5 from Sher Shah interchange Multan to Zahir Pir interchange. M3 motorway has been closed from Samundri to Darkhana.
M2 Motorways has been shut from Lahore to Hiran Minar Interchange. Similarly, the M4 motorway has been closed between Shorkot and Gojra. Likewise M11 Sialkot motorways has been closed for traffic. Motorway Police spokesperson said motorways were closed to ensure safe travel for the public.
Motorway police have advised motorists to prioritise travel during daylight hours, particularly between 10 am and 6 pm, during foggy weather conditions. Drivers were also urged to use fog lights for both front and rear visibility, avoid unnecessary travel, maintain appropriate distances from other vehicles, and reduce speed. Authorities highlighted that the measures were aimed at reducing accidents caused by the dense fog, which is common in Punjab during winter.
Motorists were encouraged to follow these guidelines for their safety and that of others on the road.
Meanwhile, National Highways and Motorways Police has expanded its campaign’s reach to sensitize motorists traveling on motorways in the dense fog situation and shared video messages in various regional languages to ensure safety of the public property and lives.
Motorways Police has advised travelers to keep their vehicles’ fog lights on along with double indicators for the entire journey on highways and motorways where fog had disrupted visibility level. He also advised commuters for continuous use of vehicles’ viper blades and keep a fair distance to avoid a collision.
The official said it was imperative to follow police advisory because it was solely meant for public safety and the motorists must keep low speed in fog, heavy mist, snow, and other poor-visibility situations.
