Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Senator Shibli Faraz has written a letter to the Chairman of the Senate, Yousaf Raza Gilani, and the Chief Election Commissioner, Raja Sikandar Sultan, for holding an election on the vacant seat of retired senator Sania Nishtar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to the text of the letter, Sania Nishtar's resignation was accepted on March 10, and under Article (5) 224 of the Constitution, it is mandatory to hold elections for the vacant seat within 30 days.
The stipulated period for elections on the seat vacated by Sania Nishtar has expired, the text of the letter said.
This move is unconstitutional and negates the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Elections for eleven seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not been held yet.
This move is increasing the constitutional framework and the deprivations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The symbol of the federation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is deprived of representation in the Senate, the text of the letter concluded.
