PM Shehbaz forms committee to suggest steps for slashing expenditures

In an effort to cut down government expenditures, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee, which will submit its recommendations to him in 75 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.


Quoting its sources, the channel reported that a nine-member, headed by the federal minister for finance, would explore ways and means to close down loss-incurring government departments, merger of different ministries and placing some of departments under the control of the provincial governments.


The committee would also mull a strategy to hand over the management of different departments to the private sector, they informed.    


Similarly, sources said, the committee would also submit its recommendations on how reforms could be introduced in different departments and what would be the future of these departments’ employees.


Other members of the committee are Ahsan Iqbal, Bilal Kiani, Dr. Farrukh Saleem, Ahad Cheema, secretary power, secretary cabinet division and Dr. Qaiser Bengali.


Earlier, a committee, headed by Dr. Jahanzeb, had sent its recommendations to the prime minister for curtailing the government’s expenses.
