Kim Kardashian is taking steps to prevent her daughter, North West, from being associated with Kanye West’s latest song, which features embattled music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The track, Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine, was recently released by Kanye on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The song includes vocals from North, as well as contributions from Diddy—credited as Puff Daddy—Diddy’s 26-year-old son King, and Yeezy musician Jasmine Williams. It also features what appears to be a recorded phone conversation between Kanye and Diddy, in which they express their mutual respect.
However, Kim reportedly attempted to block the song from being released, citing concerns over North’s involvement. According to TMZ, she had already trademarked North’s name and sent legal paperwork to Kanye in an effort to remove their 10-year-old daughter from the project. In now-deleted messages, Kanye allegedly lashed out, telling Kim, “I’m never speaking with you again.”
Kim responded by clarifying that she had the legal right to protect North’s name, saying, “I asked you at the time if I can trademark her name. You said yes. When she's 18, it goes to her. So stop. I sent paperwork over so she wouldn’t be in the Diddy song to protect her.”
The controversy comes as Diddy faces serious legal troubles, including charges related to human trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. Although he has pleaded not guilty, he remains in custody, with his trial expected to begin in May.
Kim’s move to distance North from Diddy’s legal troubles underscores her ongoing battle with Kanye over their children’s public exposure—especially in his music.
