Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Indian Congress Party leader Sonia Gandhi and husband of Priyanka Gandhi, has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Modi government, linking the recent Pahalgam incident to its ongoing promotion of the Hindutva ideology.
In a sharply worded statement, Vadra said the tragic events in Pahalgam were a direct consequence of the ruling government's divisive policies rooted in religious extremism.
He accused the Modi administration of creating an atmosphere of fear and intolerance in India by systematically promoting Hindutva, a Hindu nationalist ideology.
According to Vadra, “The constant propagation of Hindutva is marginalizing minorities. Muslims and Christians are increasingly feeling threatened. Restrictions are being placed on their religious practices, and there is a growing campaign to convert mosques into temples.”
He went on to condemn attacks on minority religious institutions, stating, “Churches are being set on fire, and the sense of insecurity among Muslims and other minorities is intensifying by the day.”
Vadra warned that the Pahalgam incident may reflect the broader societal unrest caused by this ideology-driven governance.
“When people are pushed to the edge and feel unsafe in their own homeland, such incidents are bound to occur,” he said.
Robert Vadra’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in India over rising communal violence and allegations of systematic suppression of religious freedoms.
