Giving an assurance that the government of Pakistan would extend maximum cooperation to the Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) government in its efforts to ensure peace in the territory, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday approved the deployment of Frontier Constabulary (FC) in AJK, which has seen lots of unrest of late, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq had requested the interior minister for the deployment of FC in the territory.
Speaking to the AJK prime minister, who called on him at the Interior Ministry’s office, the minister said that security arrangements would be improved in the area under his control.
“We are fulfilling the promises we had made with the people of AJK,” he said, adding, “Pakistani government stands by the AJK government and the people of the territory.”
The AJK prime minister thanked Naqvi for ordering steps for the resolution of the issues confronting the territory.
Both discussed in detail the issues concerning the law and order situation in AJK.
The political situation in the territory as well as the budget for the next financial year also came under discussion at the meeting.
Protests, which had erupted in different cities of AJK over a month ago over economic issues, paralyzed routine life, prompting the government of Pakistan to take steps to arrest rising discontent.
The people observed complete shutterdown strike, blocked roads and engaged in battles with the police on streets to register their protest against inflated electricity bills, high flour prices and priviliges offered to the elite class.
