Smog reduced slightly in Lahore on Tuesday as with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 280, it was ranked as the second most-polluted city in the world, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The AQI over the US consulate was recorded at 352; Similarly, it was 329 over Johar Town and 316 in the vicinity of The Mall.

Doctors, on the other hand, have advised people to avoid travelling unnecessarily, adding if it is really necessary, wear facemasks before stepping out of their homes.

The Met Office predicted that maximum temperature in the city would go up to 24 degrees Celsius later in the day.

Police’s crackdown on people causing pollution

In view of the issue of smog that has become an annual feature now, Lahore police, too, have swung into action and registered 590 cases besides arresting 482 people causing pollution so far this year.

Karachi emerges as fourth most polluted city

Karachi, with AQI recorded at 256, stood on fourth position in terms of pollution in the world.

Cool breeze blowing in Karachi following recent showers; the first in this winter season, has led to drop in temperatures.

It was partly cloudy in the port city early in the morning while the minimum temperature was recorded at 17.5 degrees Celsius.

Breeze was blowing from north-easterly direction at the speed of 11 kilometers per hour.

The Met Office said that temperature would remain between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius on the maximum side.

The humidity level, which was recorded at 55 per cent in the morning, would later rise to 60 to 70 per cent, the Office predicted.
